Overview
Our client is an operator of a polypropylene production facility in Geelong, Victoria. The facility is incorporated into the Viva Refinery complex. The Client is undertaking a project to repair pipework and valves within the existing steam and condensate piping system. This includes the fabrication of piping spools and consequent installation activities associated with the replacement program. While most of the tie-in works will be undertaken during shutdown conditions, the pre-planning works including fabrication and access requirements (e.g. scaffolding) will be undertaken prior to the outage events.
Vecta were engaged to execute the pipework replacement program for these work.
Objectives
The key objectives whilst completing the scope of works were:
Zero HSE incidents
Schedule monitoring and incorporation in to the overall shutdown time frames
Maintain or better cost targets
Scope of Works
Vecta Group Scope of Works included:
Final site measurements of existing pipework including closing lengths
Material procurement
Planning including work pack development
Offsite pipework fabrication, testing, coating and delivery to site
Scheduling, managing competing work scope interactions
Permit recipient process
Pre-shut access installation and modification during installation
QA and MDR finalisation
Practical Completion signoffs and handover
Delivery
Delivery included the site scanning of the existing pipework installations. This process verified the isometrics provided by the client and minimised the site weds during outage conditions.
Outcomes
Vecta Group self performed the site scanning requirements. This in turn verified the fabrication requirements. Off site fabrications was undertaken by one of Vecta’s alliance partners, with site installation be fully self performed by the Vecta Group. Using this strategic process, Vecta Group were able to minimise the site welding requirements and provide an installation schedule that fully complied with and significantly compressed the original duration allowed for by our Client.
The most significant outcome by the Vecta Group ws the reduction in site installation requirements enabling the Client to reduce the allowable outage event duration. Return to operations was earlier than planned.
